I was wondering if anyone knows some exercises to improve flexibility in the back and neck. I am hoping for better range of motion as a result. Thanks!

Try Chin Tucks. This is a super easy exercise that you can do just about anywhere. It helps to strengthen the muscles in your neck and helps to improve your posture. When you first do it, stand with your spine up against a doorjam with your feet out 3 inches from the doorjam. Keep your spine against the doorjam and pull your head and upper back backwards until your head meets the doorjam. Make sure you keep your chin is down when you start the exercise so that your head is pulled straight back and isn’t pointing upwards. So you should be looking ahead no up. Hold your head against the doorjam for about five seconds. Do this exercise ten times in a row.
Once you do this exercise a few time using the doorjam as your guide, you’ll be able to perform it standing or sitting no matter where you are. Try doing it several times during the day ( 5 times or so).

Pretty much any kind of yoga will usually help out with flexibility and easing pain. I know people who have pain disorders who practice yoga and who have been able to reduce their pain medication dosages. It's a practice that is good for the body for many reasons.

The best way to improve flexibility is to get moving around. Use your joints, stretch your muscles, tendons and ligaments. If you use your body in a wider range of motion then it will start to give you the chance to move even more. Something like swimming is good for that because you are moving around in a 3d sense.
