  • Dr. Oz admits he was wrong

Did anyone else hear that Dr. OZ admitted his mistake about saying certain ingredients were "miracles" for diet pills? I was surprised when I heard about that! I'm glad he did it though. Was anyone else surprised?

Yes! I heard that, too. That was a long time coming and about a year too late after he defended himself so fervently in front of the Senate Committee and afterward. After he cut into the medical community. After he singled out well reputed doctors who tried to tell people not to listen to the recommendations of Dr. Oz. FINALLY, he has said that it was a mistake to have recommended some of those ingredients in the first place.

It is quite sad that it came to this. He’s clearly a very intelligent man. He clearly knows a lot about health and healthful living. Why he didn’t just stick to telling people what they should do in the proper way is beyond me. I mean, obviously he was getting paid from supplement manufacturers, but aside from that, he is already a millionaire from his existing fame. Why go the extra unethical mile and recommend things that simply aren’t backed up by the medical community – his own professional community?

This whole situation has made it so that it would be hard to trust anything that he says. It’s a shame because he likely has a lot of good advice to give. But how does a regular person know what he’s advising because it’s right and what he’s advising because it puts more money in his bank account?

I know it's lame, but I think he's pretty cool. We all make mistakes

You make a very good point enviroTodd. It did take him far too long to admit his mistake and I don't understand why he would endorse things for money that would go against his ethics as as doctor.

ChefMel, I agree that we all make mistakes, but I think the mistake that Dr. Oz made has killed any integrity he has as a doctor. How can we ever trust that the advice he gives now is true or safe?

I've never understood what the big deal is with the whole Dr. Oz thing. I don't get why everyone was so upset when they found out that he was endorsing supplements with unsubstantiated claims...cause DUH, there's a big surprise! I don't care how many doctor certificates he has. The guy is a TV celebrity.Honestly, don't be dumb enough to trust a doctor with a television show. What's most important to him is making money, not the health of the millions of viewers who watch him.

That's a really good point. We have to start thinking for ourselves more. And if we think that a TV doctor gave us good advice, then we should go to our REAL doctor to ask if it's true.
