I'm already getting into heavier foods. If this keeps up, I'll be looking like santa by christmastime. Is there anything I can do to eat warm, heavy-seeming foods but without gaining weight? Are there foods that are like that that are lighter in calories? Are there special exercises I should be doing? I need to do something or all my effort will be ruined. It's like I don't have control over it this year.

I would recommend making stews. These provide you with the heavy meal that you want but you can still put some good and nutritious stuff in there. Try making pureed soups too, ones from squash. These are good for you and thick, plus you can put what you want in them. And, as always, it's about moderation. You need to practice self-control. Without that you will be doomed!

There are actually a lot great foods and recipes. I personally love sweet potato and black bean chili. Also as Wolfmoon mentioned, squash soups are good. There's actually a lot of great thick hot foods that will satisfy your fall hunger and not cause you to gain a million pounds lol. Also as Wolfmoon said, it's always important to watch how much you eat. Portion control is very important.
As for exercise I don't think you need to do anything special. Keep up with whatever you're doing. Walking is still great this time of year, so is yoga, indoor swimming, etc. If you're looking to try something different, this may be the perfect time to join a weekly class! that way you'll know that you're always getting exercise if you've got to attend a class every week!

I find that foods like squash and beets are very filling. THat way, I try to add more of those to my plate than I do foods that are higher in calories. They may not be as low in calories as lettuce, but they are far more filling. They have tons of nutrients and lots of fiber which helps to fill you up.
I agree that walking is perfect this time of year. now that the worst of the heat is gone, I find myself outside more. I'll drive to a park or to the shore and walk for ages.
